Wintergreen essential oil is produced from the Gaultheria procumbens plant and is traditionally used in Chinese medicine and cooking. -The name gaultheria is due to the royal botanist Jean François Gaultier (1708-1756), who observed that the Indians of Canada chewed and extracted the leaves of the plant to treat fever and pain. -Its analgesic and antimicrobial properties are scientifically confirmed, thanks to the high concentration (up to 98%) of methyl salicylate. -Its warm woody aroma is noticeable.
